Alex Ohm is kicking off 2021 with a new 5 track EP called The Lost Persons Meeting Point, released on February 12.
The EP is full of beautifully composed songs, with great powerful and meaningful lyrics.
The first song we hear is Going Nowhere Fast, which was released as a stand alone single in 2020 and due to the nature of the lyrics, is very relevant to the current times. However, don’t think that because of the subject matter this is a downbeat or depressing song, as the music is very upbeat song with a vocal delivery yearning for better times. The song is backed with a choir singing the songs title. This combination makes for a very powerful start to the EP.
Next up is Hours, which was released last year and raised £700 for the mental health charity Mind. The song is about the need to escape. Apart from the first 30 seconds, this song is very fast paced and has a real thunderous drums beat as well as featuring brilliant lyrics including the instantly memorable chorus “Too many times, hours upon hours / we’ve wasted time, side by side”.
The music on Breaking up is brilliant and starts off as a real up-tempo song, before being totally slowed down to feature a small piano interlude, before exploding back into a wall of sound featuring and ending on an orchestra. Amazing!!
Sometimes starts off as a slow song, before hitting the uplifting chorus and a jangly guitar riff. This song has a resemblance to Radiohead with its soaring guitar riffs and vocal delivery.
The EP finishes with Time Waits (For No One), which starts off as a little acoustic number, accompanied by an electric guitar and vocal. This track is the perfect end to the EP as it’s a real anthem and as with the other songs, really showcases Alex’s ability as a song writer.
Asked about the EP, Alex enthuses, ‘I can’t wait to share the EP with everybody! It’s a collection of songs that I’m really proud of and are a good reflection of where the band and I are at right now.’
