You know when you hear a song for the first time and it’s in your head and you just keep playing it on repeat? Wolverhampton band Watermark have done exactly that with The Morning After, which is the lead song from the forthcoming EP Hickman Avenue.
Consisting of Andrew Bateman (vocals & co-lead guitar), Sam Whitehouse (bass & backing vocals), Cameron Allsebrook (co-lead guitar) and Joshua Walton (drums), Watermark, have released a brilliant first single, which will have you instantly toe-taping along to and wanting more.
The Morning After, which in my opinion has put itself as an early contender for song of the year, starts off with a chugging bass line, before the guitar riff, which has a real dance vibe and is played with real vigour, and the pounding drums kick in and gives the song a real up beat tempo. At the start of each chorus, there is also a cheeky bass solo, which is great.
As Watermark start to become more prevalent in the public domain, their sound, thanks to the vocal, will instantly be recognisable, in much the same way the likes of Johnny Rotten, Liam Gallagher and Kelly Jones are.
The lyrics concentrate on the morning after a night out and the inevitable fall out from that and the rut that individual has got themselves into.
Apart from being a great song, that instantly hits you and has you toe-taping along, is that this is a demo! The idea being you are introduced to the band, who have high ambitions of being one of the biggest bands about, and their sound. Based on the quality of this demo, they will do this with consummate ease and will become one of the bands of 2021 and beyond.
The Morning After is released on Saturday 6th February and is the the lead song from their forthcoming EP, Hickman Avenue, which will see the band release a song a month, with the last release planned for 1st May.
