Siracuse – Forever Album Review

Following on from their debut EP release in 2018, Siracuse released their album Forever in the summer of 2020 and it’s an album full of psychedelic guitars and mesmerising guitar riffs, big thundering drums, distorted bass lines and great melodies. This album is full of thrills and no filler.

Opening track Forever starts off with a bit of guitar feedback, before the drums kick in, quickly followed by the opening guitar riff and you are hooked.

Into The Night is a heavy guitar based song, and progressively gets louder. The song has Arctic Monkeys, Suck it and See album vibe and you can hear the Joy Division influence too. Into The Night, is a proper old style rocknroll classic.

Control is full of energy and takes influence from early BRMC songs, awash with big atmospheric guitar riffs. Vocally, Ben delivers a performance that Tom Meighan would have been proud of.

With its big drumming intro including crashing cymbals , Rebels has a “Bring it on Down” vibe. The song is soon supported with a mesmerising and memorable guitar riff that wants you to pick up the guitar and have a go at playing yourself.

Lost Fiction was the lead single for the album and is a brilliant indie pop song. The drums just crash in from the start and the song has a real energy about it.

So Serene brings the frantic pace down several notches and shows a completely different side to the band that we hadn’t seen up until this point. The guitar playing on this track is truly epic and I can see 50,000 people in a field, with their lighters in the air (or should that be phones!!) swaying and bellowing back the “so Serene” lyric.

Whirlpool has a distinctive garage rock feel about it, a bit like some BRMC songs and has a darker feel to it compared to the other songs on the album. It bobs along steadily, before exploding into life with the 2 guitar solos.

Love Stands Tall the drumming on this track really stands out. You can picture the scene at gigs where the dancefloor just descends into pure chaos when this song gets played.

Shadow Walker is full of guitar riffs just exploding into life throughout the song. A Primal Scream/dance vibe going on with this song and The Verve style charting.

Loosen Your Grip this is a real banger of a track, with its excessive and fast drumming and guitar riff straight out of the rocknroll book of guitar riffs, that lends itself to an explosion of noise.

The Keeper is melodic and memorable and is really stripped back from other tracks on the album. The vocal delivery and sound of the song would mean it is perfect for a Liam Gallagher album.

Siracuse have delivered a brilliant debut album, full of swagger and lyrics representing escapism, hope (we all need that at the moment!) and is unashamedly proud of its rocknroll influences.

The band have recently dropped a video for LST, check it out here https://youtu.be/PYm55Bgkh0M

You can stream the album in all the usual places and can be downloaded from ITunes.
